Camellias
Beautiful, evergreen shrubs which bear large blooms from February to April given the right conditions
- Prefers a sheltered, party-shaded position. Avoid early morning sun as this may damage the buds and cause them to drop
- Requires acidic soil/ericaceous compost (if uncertain of your soil PH, test before planting with a soil test kit)
- When planting in the ground ensure the top of the root ball is level with the surrounding soil
- Water regularly, preferably with rain water, until the shrub is well established
- Do not allow the shrub to dry out in hot weather as the buds forming may shrivel and this could cause there to be fewer flowers the following spring
- A liquid (ericaceous) feed should be given in spring and again in summer
- Ideal for a container if soil conditions or space are a problem
